Yunyi Chen 陳昀翊

The "Five Purities" refer to paintings that use plum blossoms, orchids, bamboo, chrysanthemums, and pine trees as their subjects. These themes are collectively known as the "Five Purities." Literati painting became prevalent because these five subjects symbolize the clear, resilient character of individuals, making them highly favored by artists and an important theme in traditional painting. Pine, bamboo, and plum blossoms are commonly referred to as the "Three Friends of Winter," while plum blossoms, orchids, bamboo, and chrysanthemums are collectively known as the "Four Gentlemen."
